Welcome to Organizations by Design's Blog!

I'm stuck on the name for this blog.

You may see it change several times until the title feels right.

That sentence can apply to this blog, or a career, or a strategy moving forward ...

That's why I'm writing this blog.

After many years in leadership and management positions, I find that people expect me to have answers. The reality is, there's always more than one answer. The talent lies in being willing to try to figure out the one that feels right. I'm hoping, that through this blog, my colleagues and I can help you find your path, your strategy or your title - the one that feels right.

Oh, who am I?  I am Barbara Heisler, the Principal of Organizations by Design since 2001. Here's my official bio:

Barbara Heisler, M.Ed.

Before devoting her work full time to coaching and organizational consulting, Barbara Heisler served as CEO of the innovative arts education nonprofit GlassRoots, where she successfully led the organization through a strategic turn-around resulting in rigorous program offerings, a national reputation for innovation, financial stability and deep community collaboration.

Barbara's professional background includes more than 35 years in non-profit, education and government management. Her work has focused on strategic planning, organization and board development, program design, communications strategy, fiscal oversight, resource development, and grant procurement, through executive leadership positions at Funding Exchange, Fund for an Open Society, and the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race, in addition to GlassRoots and her consulting practice, Organizations by Design. Heisler also worked in senior management positions at the US Department of Education and institutions of higher education.

Recognized with numerous awards, Heisler has served on several boards including the NJ Center for Non-Profits and the Center for Creative Placemaking, and on committees for Philanthropy New York and the Council on Foundations.  Barbara earned an M.Ed. in Management and Organizational Development from Cambridge College, a Certificate in Small Business Entrepreneurship from Boston University, and a Graduate Certificate in Appreciative Inquiry from Rutgers University- Newark SPAA. Barbara is a sought after speaker, coach and advisor.

My colleagues are consultants and coaches that I've worked with for over 30 years. We're here to share our wisdom on this blog, and to work with you or your organization in person (or in this age of COVID, virtually.)

I hope you find our writings and musings helpful, sometimes humorous, enlightening, sharable, and always worth reading.

We're glad to be on this path with you,

Barbara
